Sled Dogs

I zip, zap, and zoom.

I run in the pitch black.

I run as the wind is in my face.

I run while my booties keep my feet warm.

I can’t wait to RUN!

I whine, yip, and yap,

My heart pounding.

My musher cares for me every day.

He puts my booties on and spoils me.

I run across the silver river, slowly but fast enough not to break the ice.

My nose is cold, but I love it.

I wag my tail in excitement.

I am a fearless sled dog!

Doctors

IMG_1849

Doctors are very helpful because they help sick people. Back then people wouldn’t get better as easily. Back then when you walked in you wouldn’t see desks or computers in the doctor’s office because they didn’t have this technology. If you had a headache, you would have to take walnut meat because it looked like a brain. Doctors didn’t have x-rays back then. If you had a broken arm, you wouldn’t get a cast. You would get a wooden splint or a wooden cast. Sometimes doctors used tree bark, plant leaves, or herbs and roots. Doctors back then had raw materials like plants, herbs, roots, and some animal parts. All the time, doctors are very helpful.

My Ice Cube Keeper Engineering Challenge

Ice Cube Keeper Engineering Challenge

Ask: Do you have to keep the keeper closed for the ice cube to keep from melting?

Next, we imagined what our ice cube keeper would look like, planned, and created it. I got a big plastic bowl container, and I put a metal can in it. I took a regular metal lid and put it on. Then I put a tissue on it, and I put a tissue over the ice cube.

I predict that my ice cube will stay frozen five hours.

My table:

Time: Measurement: Observations:

I might try this to keep my ice cube from melting as soon as it did. I might try a double lid so it maybe seals better. Some of the scientists had good results from that. I also might try foam cut out with the shape of the ice cube to hold it tight and keep air from it. I might experiment with different kinds of ice packs.

My reflections: The metal can worked well. I might change the tissue to nothing. I thought Martha’s double lid worked so well. I wonder how heat works, and I’d like to find out more.
